At a rehearsal visit, BroadwayWorld.com Philippines had the opportunity to sit down and had a tête-à-tête with the two leads, Gil and Martinez.

Gil who just got back from her European tour was game enough to answer some questions thrown at her as well as Martinez.

Since the two-character show was based on the relationship between Carole Bayer Sager and Marvin Hamlisch, both did not escape the question about their tandem, how they feel toward each other as their first team-up.

Even if it’s not the first time that both have worked together, Nikki mentioned that she felt ‘awkward’ at first and has mixed emotions working with Lorenz.

Meanwhile, he didn’t believe at first when he was told by the executive producer Santi Santamaria that he’s going to be Gil’s love interest, “Though it’s not my first time to do a romantic lead, natatawa ako noong una.”

Despite the ‘awkwardness’, the music has made them comfy with each other and both have their favorite songs in the said production. Nikki loves Lorenz’s song titled ‘Fallin’ and Lorenz loves Nikki’s ‘I Still Believe in Love’.

“I can remember that I was already singing ‘Fallin’ when I was still seven years old. Those were the multiplex days. Didn’t know at first that it was part of the said production,” reveals Gil.

On the other hand, Lorenz shares, “I like ‘I Still Believe in Love’ because Lea Salonga is an idol.”

Doing the said production, Gil also adds, “This is a breather for me. For the past months, I’ve been doing soaps and I am glad I have the opportunity to be part of this.

“We have a perfect mix in the cast. Working with Lorenz as my partner is an honor.”

Both as actors, they consider theater a place to further hone their respective crafts.

For Nikki, working in theater, made her realize that one has to be professional, all the time and one must be patient and must respect her co-workers. Lorenz also put emphasis on being excellent in everything.

They are one in saying that theater is not a place for making big bucks, but they do it because they love it.

With Gil and Martinez are the country’s finest actors and among which are James Stacey, Reb Atadero, Noel Rayos, Peachy Atilano, Anna Santamaria, and Jill Pena as the male ensemble and the female ensemble. ‘They’re Playing Our Song’ will be directed by Robbie Guevara, Joseph Tolentino as musical director for instrumentation, Lionel Guico as musical director for vocals, Mio Infante as scenographer and costume designer, Martin Esteva as its lighting designer, Gemini Quintos as the choreographer, Chuck Ledesma as the sound designer, Twinkle Zamora as costume executioner, and Kalila Aguilos as costume stylist.

It is co-presented by The Rockwell Club and The Peninsula Manila.
