GMA 7’s ‘My Husband’s Lover’: A Daring Move in Philippine Television

Perhaps, this is the first time ever that in Philippine television, a story of this sort will be presented to the boobtube viewers as GMA-7 is soon to air ‘My Husband’s Lover’, premiers on Monday, June 10. It will replace ‘Love & Lies’ on the network’s primetime block.
The story centers on Vincent who impregnated his girlfriend Lally, while they were still in college. The two decided to get married even if Vincent’s mother, Elaine, was very much against it. The couple’s marriage was never smooth-sailing because of Vincent’s mother. But for the sake of her love for her husband, Lally endures the hardships in dealing with her mother-in-law.

What complicates the story even the more, Lally got pregnant with their second child, and Vincent suddenly became distant and cold towards her. She felt that her husband was being unfair to her so she decided to leave together with their children.

Vincent loves his kids so much, so he tries to win back his wife by proposing to get married again in church.

Lally and Vincent’s life became better after the church wedding. But unknown to Lally, Vincent is keeping a skeleton in his closet–he is gay.

He kept his secret hidden for so long, afraid that this will destroy his family, but when Eric entered in Vincent’s life, everything changed. Eric turned out to be Vincent’s great love. Unlike Vincent, Eric is openly gay and he is still in love with Vincent as well. Because of their strong feelings for each other, they started having an affair behind Lally’s.

Carla Abellana plays Lally. Tom Rodriguez and Dennis Trillo as Vincent and Eric, respectively. They will be with Karel Marquez, Victor Basa, Bettina Carlos, Kuh Ledesma, Chanda Romero, Roi Vinzon, Glydel Mercado, Kevin Santos, and Pancho Magno in the cast. The teleplay is collaboratively written by Suzette Doctolero, Marlon Miguel, and Geng Delgado; direction is by Dominic Zapata.

In this series, Trillo will shine anew as a versatile actor. He once acted as a gay in a 2004 film titled ‘Ashite Imasu 1941: Mahal Kita’ as Ignacio Basa or Inya Marasigan. He won Best Actor in a Supporting Role for the said film at the 30th Metro Manila Film Festival.
