Due to the heavy jam on EDSA yesterday, I was suppose to watch Dulaang UP’s ‘Adarna’ and opted to not proceed there anymore since he will definitely be late for the show. I was choosing between ‘RED 2’ and ‘Turbo’, but the Ramon Bautista-inspired flick of the same title ‘Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?’ with Kim Chiu and Xian Lim on the lead cast pulled me to watch it instead.
Apart from the winning streak of Joyce Bernal as the director and the story that based by the best-selling author Bautista—the flick has validated the bankability of Chiu and Lim’s chemistry onscreen. On its first day yesterday, July 31, it has drawn not just the fans of the team-up, but even perhaps those who have read the self-help book and those who were really intrigued with how one can find their true love like the lead character Sandy Veloso portrayed by Chiu.
In the recently concluded Yahoo! OMG! Awards 2013, Chiu and Lim earned the title as Best Love Team of the Year with 325,453 votes—and through this romantic comedy, it will further make their fans go crazy and feel giddy about the kissing scenes. Also, there were dramatic scenes that both have tackled in a tasteful manner, like the ‘getting back’ part of Sandy and Alex Prieto.
I find the portrayal of both characters unassuming. Kim is naturally funny in many of her scenes especially the one when she was fixing her thong in one scene, which Bb. Bernal revealed in a blogger’s conference that it was really ‘itchy’ and ‘uncomfy’ for her lead star to wear it. On the other hand, Xian with his towering height and his disarming looks—there was no doubt that he made a perfect match to the chinky-eyed Cebuana star.
If you want to laugh with someone special this weekend, ‘Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo’ is an ideal movie date. It has all the elements of making you fall in love, laugh crazily and go home feeling good about what might the failures of getting into relationship would bring; but still be hopeful that life is never a dead-end, but always a process of moving on.
For Hollywood flick lovers, this might just be the Filipino version of ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ and ‘Friends with Benefits’. However, Bautista’s self-help on moving-on book is helpful, enlightening, and delightful altogether. It is still showing in all cinemas nationwide and is part of Star Cinema’s 20th anniversary offering.
Starring in this film are Kean Cipriano, Ramon Bautista as himself, Mylene Dizon, Freddie Webb, EJ Jallorina, Cholo Barretto, Jojit Lorenzo, Marnie Lapus, Cheska Iñigo, Cecil Paz, Diane Medina, Sarah Gaugler, and with special participation of Tonton Gutierrez, Angeline Quinto, and Pokwang as Sandy’s mom.
