On its 22nd year of brining entertainment and musical productions for its young audiences, Repertory Philippines proudly announces a richly imaginative offering with the staging of ‘Pinocchio’ that will open on August 16 at Greenbelt One’s Onstage, Makati City. The show will run until December 14 of this year.
‘Pinocchio’ is one of those well-loved musicals for children of all ages and is a story about a wooden puppet who wants to become a real boy whose nose grows long every time he lies. Originally written as a serial in 1881, Le avventure di Pinocchio (The Adventures of Pinocchio), its popularity was given a boost when Walt Disney made it into a popular 1940 animated film. The story has been filmed many times, including a 2002 live-action version starring 50-year-old Oscar-winner Roberto Benigni as Pinocchio.
For this latest stage production, Pinocchio is alternately assumed by Albert Silos, Noel Comia, Daniel Drilon, Guido Gatmaytan, Sofie Wong and Andee Achacoso, respectively. Oliver Usison and Nic Campos alternate as Gepetto, the toymaker who is noticeably warm-hearted and caring, spirited and fun loving.
Arnel Carrion and James Stacey as Antonio; Antonio Lane and Jay Pangilinan as Candlewick, Natalie Everett, Ring Antonio and Bituin Escalante will share the role of Angelina, Geppetto’s housekeeper. Liesl Batucan, Christine Flores and Cara Barredo are the three Blue Fairies; Steven Conde and Steven Hotchkiss as Signore Volpone, the ringleader of a sinister plot to exploit naive children; Chino Veguillas and Dingdong Rosales as Signore Gatto, the less intelligent sidekick of Signore Volpone; Onyl Torres, Raul Montesa and Bituin Escalante will be alternating as the Coachman; while Vien King and Steven Conde will be Gino.
Khevin Almario, Mano Domingo, Gold Soon, Thea Gloria, Gabri Panlilio, Ina Salonga, David Shawn Delgado, Justine Pena, Daniel Delgado, James Perez, Kendrick Ibasco, Cristy Paredo, Mica Fajardo, Astarte Abraham and Nicolle Cojuangco are part of the ensemble.
Ms. Joy Virata, artistic director of Repertory Philippines Therater for Young Audiences will direct this new and fresh production of Pinocchio.
