Piolo Pascual leads the cast of ‘Hawak Kamay’; premieres on July 21

After a much intense drama and domestic issue-centered series ‘The Legal Wife’—ABS-CBN Channel 2 chose a different route this time, as the network cast the one and only Piolo Pascual in a heartwarming family drama series titled ‘Hawak Kamay’ starting Monday, July 21 after TV Patrol.

Fresh from the box-office success of his film with Toni Gonzaga via ‘Starting Over Again’, he is paired with two of Philippines’ equally beautiful and talented actresses—Iza Calzado and Nikki Gil as Atty. Bianca Magpantay and Me-Ann, respectively. However, the series is not focused on a love triangle, but about Gin’s (Pascual’s character, a frustrated musician) journey of becoming a mature, ‘responsible’ individual and eventually becoming a loving adopted father to three orphans—Zaijan Jaranilla as Emong, Xyriel Manabat as Dara, and Yesha Camile as Ningning.

Though he’s not aware exactly about the theme of its rival show on GMA-7, which has a ‘magical realism’ concept and has a combination of concept from ABS-CBN’s previous series—‘Budoy’ and ‘May Bukas Pa’; Pascual is confident that ‘Hawak Kamay’ would still hook televiewers due to its story and uniqueness of its concept.

“’Hawak Kamay’ is a story about being family; and it is not limited to blood relations, but all of us are interconnected with each other because of a powerful energy, and that is love,” Iza Calzado says.

Nikki Gil also describes the show as a ‘breath of fresh air’ from the usual heavy soaps that the Filipino viewers are treated nowadays.

According to Ruel Bayani, ABS-CBN business unit head for TV productions, ‘Hawak Kamay’ was not simply a reaction of putting up such just for the heck of coming up with a show. “The show was thought of during the Philippine Dream Academy (PDA) days, where the winner from that singing reality-show was originally envisioned to play the lead character in the said series.”

The said series was Piolo’s choice as part of his renewed contract with ABS-CBN.

Pascual was asked if there was any challenge in working with the kids and he was quick to reply, “I had to wake up early for our taping since I work with kids this time.”

Also in the cast of ‘Hawak Kamay’ is the Child Star of the Year in this year’s Yahoo Celebrity Awards—Andrea Brillantes as Lorrie, Ryan Bang; the come-backing actor Victor Neri, Nadia Montenegro, Atoy Co, Moi Bien, the ‘She’s Dating the Gangster’ star—Sofia Andres, and PBB All-In Housemate fame—Axel Torres as Benj, Pascual’s younger brother in the series.

The series is directed by Mae Cruz, Rechie del Carmen, and Jerry Lopez Sineneng.
