Now on its second year, the City Government of Calamba, who spearheads the now annual event called ‘Buhayani Festival’ is set to have its awards night or ‘gabi ng paggawad ng parangal’ on Wednesday, June 17 at SM City Cinema 1, Crossing, Barangay 1, Calamba, Laguna. This year’s festival will feature three full-length indie films directed and written by talented Calambanos; with renowned and multi-awarded international film and television director, Maryo J. Delos Reyes heading the festival’s subcommittee.
The event, which the city mayor, Justin Marc ‘Timmy’ Chipeco has urged the Sangguniang Panglungsod headed by its vice mayor Roseller H. Rizal to pass an ordinance institutionalizing the said project as the official festival of the City of Calamba, will kick off on June 12 to 19. A grand parade is also set to be this year’s main attraction and will be known as the first-ever Buhayani Film Festival with a theme: ‘Rizal and His Advocacy for Peace’.
Along with Delos Reyes, homegrown actors and actresses also take part in the said effort that celebrates the national hero’s birthday and as the last Renaissance Man and the Greatest Malay who has ever been revered so far in history.
The First-Ever Buhayani Independent Film Festival allows local talents to showcase what they have and popularize the ideals and works of Gat. Dr. Jose Rizal through modern technology and new strategies. The three films are ‘Ama Namin’, ‘Talumpati’, and ‘Nasaan si Crispin’. Mainstream artists from the Philippine mainstream cinema, the likes of Ana Capri who will be featured in ‘Ama Namin’ and tourism consultant for Laguna province, Leandro Baldemor is also starring in ‘Talumpati’.
