Resorts World Manila brings back a Filipino Classic to the Center Stage!

The famous lines that Cherie Gil was once known for as Lavinia Arguelles in the 1985 film titled ‘Bituing Walang Ningning’ that said: “You’ll never make it. You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard, copycat”–will  be relived not via a TV or film remake, but an onstage musical of the same title and will set to open on June 17 at Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila.

The antagonist role that gave Gil, the image to be the total biatch and diva that others had to be compared or to compete with; will be assumed by Cris Villonco as a different Lavinia this time around. While the role that Christopher de Leon as Nico Escobar will now be portrayed by West End alumnus Mark Bautista. Dorina Pineda which made Sharon Cuneta as one of the biggest stars in the 80s and catapulted and dubbed as the Megastar and Sarah Geronimo who also assumed the role on its TV remake; the stage presentation will be spotlighting a newcomer, but a product of amateur singing tilts–Monica Cuenco.

‘Bituing Walang Ningning’ will run for a month until July 18. It will be directed by premier concert and theater director Direk Freddie Santos, and with musical numbers supported by the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Rodel Colmenar.

Also, the said musical is lifted from Nerissa Cabral’s comic novel.

Kubot: A Horror-Action-Comedy Flick to Watch this MMFF 2014

If there are few of the flicks and official entries in the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2014 that moviegoers shouldn’t miss—it is ‘Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2’ co-produced by Reality Entertainment with AgostoDos Pictures, and released by GMA Films.

Opening on Christmas Day, the original cast led by Kapuso actor—Dingdong Dantes with Joey Marquez as well as Ramon Bautista (assuming another character after being axed in the first installment of the film) are all back in the sequel of this ‘aswang’ serialized flick.

Director Erik Matti promised its audiences to have a more action-packed horror flick as its setting comes to a classic Manila. Matti co-wrote the continuing adventures of Makoy (which would remind us of a ‘Harry Potter-type of mystique’ character) with Michiko Yamamoto. And for most films with sequels, it is expected and predicted to be better than the first one.

Dantes, Marquez and Bautista are joined by Isabelle Daza, KC Montero, Elizabeth Oropesa, Lotlot de Leon, Jun Sabayton, and Abra debuting in this film.

In terms of production values, according to Matti, ‘Kubot’ is five times more as compared to its first part. Though, it had created quite a ‘stir’ on its shooting issues due to a particular former cast member, whom the director was compelled to find a replacement in order to finish the filming–it still hasn’t lost its continuity-factor.

Based on its teaser—it has enough stuff that would intrigue moviegoers to catch up during the holidays. ‘Kubot’ might be the right vehicle to redeem GMA-7’s flopped venture after that bad film titled ‘Overtime’.

BUM’s Comikon-Themed Tops coming soon…

Personally, I find the upcoming limited edition tops of BUM dubbed as ‘Comikon’ series very timely and appealing not just to me, but especially to its intended market–the youth.

For me, coming up with a collection like this is reflective of what Spanish-Mexican cartoonist and writer, who is best known for his contributions to Mad Magazine and creator of the comic book ‘Groo the Wanderer’–Sergio Aragonés Domenech have once said, “Comics is a great medium to get a lot of stories out.”

When one gets to wear such tops–it will definitely project the kind of animals that the wearer would best identify with because of its ‘positive’ traits and there’s always a story behind the choice.

Soon to be released on October 16, get it from all BUM boutiques nationwide. For updates, LIKE its facebook page.
