It was Star Magic Artist Training Head Rahyan Carlos who first invited Chubbuck to the country and at that time, he underwent an intensive teacher’s training program under her, which allowed him to become proficient in the different levels of acting classes from Introductory to Master class. At the end of his his training, he earned the title of being the only Filipino authorized to teach the ‘Chubbuck Technique’ in the Philippines.

Selected Star Magic artists will be fortunate to have Ivana Chubbuck to coach them for a two-day workshop that will commence today, March 1 until tomorrow, March 2. Despite Chubbuck’s busy schedule back in the US, she finally said ‘yes’ and committed to providing her ‘cathartic’ techniques for the artists that were approved by Star Magic Artist training head Rahyan Carlos, who also took a course under the Hollywood acting coach for two and half months in 2013.
“I’ve been dying to bring her here,” Carlos shared.
Chubbuck, author of the best-selling book ‘The Power of the Actor’ also expressed her fondness toward Carlos, which made her ‘yes’.
According to Chubbuck, “Beauty doesn’t have meaning. It’s about hard work.”
She simply stressed that it’s not just all about talent, but actors should put on more hard work, should be developed, and should be honed in order to bring out their greatness.
Carlos further described Chubbuck’s method of acting as is not something that would drain her students, but rather it constructs and not makes them self-destruct in the process.
“Chubbuck’s approach gives much respect on the writer’s, the text. It’s all about script analysis – the overall and scene objectives,” said Carlos.
“I don’t make good actors, I make great actors,” Chubbuck added.
Her technique can be likened to life coaching. She creates that ‘sense of possibility’. Hers is more of making that ‘change’ and to ‘overcome’ whatever inner struggles of her students would be.
She was the coach of Halle Berry prior to winning the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2002 for her performance in ‘Monster’s Ball’. After that, her career as a coach has made her the sought-after acting coach for stars like Charlize Theron, Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, Terrence Howard, Elisabeth Shue, Catherine Keener, Djimon Honsou, America Ferrera, Eva Mendes, Kate Bosworth, Ian Somerhalder, Dwayne Cameron, April Bowlby and Glenn McCuen.
She has also worked with: Jim Carrey, Jessica Alba, Radha Mitchell, Carrie-Anne Moss, Garry Shandling, Jessica Biel, Amy Brenneman, Kate Walsh, Judith Light, Amy Smart, Marcia Cross, Jared Leto, David Spade, Matthew Perry, David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel, Ali Larter and Beyoncé Knowles.
Among the Star Magic artists included and will be coached personally by Chubback are—Gerald Anderson, Jake Cuenca, Akiko Solon, Dimples Romana, Koreen Medina, Arron Villaflor, Ynna Assistio, Arjo Atayde, Xian Lim, Sam Milby, and Piolo Pascual. Other non-Star Magic artists—Liza Dino, Carla Martinez, Issa Litton, Nico Policarpio, Christian Bables, Roj Gealon, and Suzette Ranillo will also take part in the workshop.
Chubbuck assigned situations and scenes for the Star Magic artists and other participants in the workshop prior to arriving on Thursday. She based the characters on the artists’ profiles sent to her by Carlos.
Ivana has also taught at The Juilliard School of Drama in New York.
Chubbuck was honored by The Russian International Film Festival (she is of Russian descent) with a lifetime achievement award for her contributions to the film industry alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, William Friedkin, and Francis Ford Coppola.
She is married to director Lyndon Chubbuck and grew up in Southfield, Michigan, before moving to Los Angeles in 1973.
An intensive acting workshop, which is open to the public for both amateurs and professionals will be offered by Star Magic Workshop under Rahyan Carlos, as the only Filipino Representative and authorized to teach the ‘Chubback Technique’ in the country. There will be three categories: Introductory Class, Advanced Class, and the Master Class.
