Selling ‘sex’ as a tool to boosting a particular product or service or even a film is no longer a doubt and the formula that was utilized in Regal Entertainment Incorporated’s latest offering—‘Wild and Free’ posed a rather ‘challenging’ route against all its previous wholesome productions; but thanks to the brilliance of Direk Connie S.A. Macatuno’s direction—this might just be a surprise hit for two equally gorgeous stars—Derrick Monasterio and Sanya Lopez.
The film opened with a guy named Jake being picked up by a transport network vehicle service (TNVS) female driver named Ellie—both portrayed by Monasterio and Lopez, respectively. During the trip both felt ‘awkwardness’ which led them both breaking the ice when they started reminiscing about their ‘past’—their previous relationship. Just a few minutes—the controversial car sex scene was already a ‘jolting job’ to awaken the moviegoers’ senses.
Without giving much of the story, it turned out that the film was more of a journey of understanding the two characters’ struggles about their love for each other. Surely those hungry-for-some-skin, this type of flick is a something to feast on by the male and female populace. Not just visually appealing because of its sexiness for which the film was intended for—it sizzled not just between the two leads but in the scenes where it involved Ellie and Carlo (Juancho Triviño) as well.
That’s exactly how moviegoers should figure out what the latter is portraying and how he is linked to the two lead characters.
Script-wise, it may not be seamlessly written and told, yet the direction on how the film is designed for; it did work well. If, I were to develop and tell the story—I would have chosen to focus on the rivalry of the two guys and Ellie being the ultimate prize. Probably, the film could have taken the path of an erotic-romance-suspense-thriller kind of piece.
Macatuno succeeded in telling how both individuals are passionate and are really into each other especially in love scenes. The shots in the trailer were just enough to entice moviegoers to come and watch the film. The director has her way of making each sex scenes steamy because of its eroticism and it built almost real sexual tensions, too.
Another character that may have stolen some scenes was Ash Ortega. Her being the girl best friend of Ellie, provided the audience with comic relief through her some humorous lines and also left quite a good impression.
‘Wild and Free’ is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
For one-night only at the Music Museum on May 18, a Friday, four Kapuso hunks—Rocco Nacino, Derrick Monasterio, Jak Roberto and Dave Borneo promise to heighten the summer heat because of their gorgeous physiques as they are joined by two of today’s popular gay comedians—Super Teklah and Donita Nose in a show titled ‘Oh, BOY! & Oh, LOL!’.
Given that the concert is just a night, the production (CCC Productions) behind the success of the shows of Vice Ganda, Julie Anne San Jose, Kyla, and Alden Richards to name a few—are out to duplicate its feat. Marvin Caldito will be the director and will provide a good mix of fun and entertainment—that is funny and peppered with sexy and lively musical numbers.
Obviously, it’s going to rain with real brawny and breathtaking bodies of these men who are all-out to satisfy the fantasies of their audience by providing them with spectacularly arresting or appealing individual and group performances.
When the four equally irresistible good-looking young artists were asked if what benefit they get in performing live apart from acting on television and in films—they were unanimous in their reply—why not explore the said venue in order to hone their skills to be versatile and become total performers. After all, the four guys do know how to sing thus doing the said show may just be a breeze for them.
And to ease down the probable sexual tension that might be built by the Kapuso hunks—comedians and former co-hosts of ‘Wowowin’—Super Teklah and Donita Nose are to the rescue in neutralizing the show from being serious and sensuous to being hilarious. Audience will have to expect never-before-seen acts that will surely set the stage on fire.
